March 12, 1931, No. 7693 [Class 75 (i).] A reversible regenerative furnace especially intended for melting glass is provided with burners 1, Figs. 1 and 3, each mounted in a recess 4 formed in a metal plate 2 secured to the exterior of the furnace wall 11, the burner nozzle 9 lying in an opening 8 and substantially flush with the inner surface of the plate 2 so that the smallest possible surface of the nozzle is exposed to the hot furnace gases. The burner is provided with trunnions 7 which engage with slots in the walls of the recess 4 and is angularly adjustable. The lower part of the recess is of spherical form to receive a correspondingly shaped part of the burner and the upper end of the recess is elliptical in shape. The burner is maintained in position by gravity.</p> |
