<PICT:0375156/IV/1> Textile fabrics T<2> are treated with liquids in a tank B having a continuous J-shaped guiding passage C arranged within the tank and having the long leg portion thereof extending at an angle of about 60 DEG to the horizontal considerably above the level of the liquid in the lower part of the tank. The upper and lower walls 2, 3 of the passage are relatively straight and the side walls are adjustable for any particular width of cloth. The cloth may be sprayed before entering the passage and between each passage when more than one are used. A plaiter F is provided above each passage, or means may be provided for bringing the cloth into rope form by a guide ring moving backwards and forwards transversely of the machine. The cloth on leaving the passage passes between drag bars 26, the amount of drag being increased or decreased by adjusting the frame 25. The cloth is spread by rolls 52 on a frame H. The apparatus may be used for boiling textiles in weak alkaline solutions between operations of spraying and squeezing. Heating coils and means for circulating the liquid to the spraying nozzles are provided.
