<p>An inflatable bed (10) comprising a pneumatic base (12) and a pneumatic mattress (14), wherein the base (12) comprises a drop-stitch core (50). The mattress (14) may additionally comprise a drop-stitch core (50). The drop-stitch core (50) suitably comprises an upper sheet of flexible material (52), a lower sheet of flexible material (54) and space yarns (56) interconnecting the upper (52) and lower (54) flexible sheets. The use of a drop-stitch core suitably renders base relatively rigid, such that it may be able to act as a structural component of the bed. By comprising a drop-stitch core, the base can be made relatively high, to elevate the mattress (and the user) much higher above floor level than can be achieved using a conventional pneumatic mattress alone, whilst retaining structural stiffness that reduces the likelihood of the base tipping or collapsing under the weight to a user.</p> |
