Preparing 2-phenoxy-acetal compound (I), comprises reacting a 2-hydroxyacetal compound (III) with a substituted aromatic compound (IV). Preparing 2-phenoxy-acetal compound of formula (I), comprises reacting a 2-hydroxyacetal compound of formula (R 1>-C(-OH)-C(-OR 2>)-OR 2>) (III) with a substituted aromatic compound of formula (IV). R 1>H, 1-12C alkyl, electron deficient groups, 5-6C (hetero)aryl optionally substituted with halo, NO 2-, -CN, -CF 3-, acyl group or alkyl group; R 2>1-5C alkyl; and Z : H, NO 2, 1-6C alkyl or 1-6C aryl. Where both R 2> are directly bounded with one another or bounded with one another over a 1-4 carbon unit; and one of Y 1> is H and the other Y 1> is NO 2, CN, CF 3, F, Cl or Br, or both Y 1> are NO 2, CN, CF 3, F or Cl.
