Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device. More particularly, the present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device for improving the image degradation such an afterimage when realizing a full-white specific pattern, and to a method for driving the same. The liquid crystal display device according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises a liquid panel, a data driver for supplying a data voltage the liquid panel, a timing controller including an image compensation unit which analyzes a video signal inputted by an external system and changes a gray scale range if the video signal has a consistent pattern to supply to the data driver, and a setting information storage unit which stores a setting value that is a reference value for changing the gray scale range. The liquid crystal display device of the present invention can improve the afterimage problem by analyzing a pattern of the video signal provided from the external system and varying the gray scale range of the video signal according to the predetermined setting value in case of receiving the video in which full-black and full-white patterns are realized in the alternative manner like a mosaic pattern so that a DC voltage corresponding to a maximum gray scale value can be minimally applied to a liquid crystal cell.
