377,778. Sliding hinges. ARNOLD, J. M., 36, Rue Delhove, Ganshoren, Belgium. June 1, 1931, No. 15956. [Class 65 (ii).] A pivot for doors of the type in which the pin is fixed to the top or bottom edge of the door, is provided with means for moving the pivot axis and door away from the door-post during the first part of the opening movement to avoid the necessity of rounding off the hinging edge of the door to clear the door-post. The pivot comprises a plate 2, fixed to the top of the door, a pin 1 fixed to the plate 2, and a plate 3 fixed to the door frame, having a slot in which the pivot pin 1 engages. Pivoted to the pin 1 above the plate 3, in a recess in the door frame, is a plate 4 having a slot which engages a pin 5 fixed to the plate 3. Pivoted to a pin 6 fixed in the plate 4 is an arm 7 having a forked end which engages a pin 9 fixed in the plate 3. The pivot pin 1 has fixed to it a cam washer 8 having a projection 11, which engages with a notch in the arm 7 to rotate the latter member clockwise when the pivot pin is rotated anticlockwise, and thus to cause the plate 4, as the door opens, to move to the left with respect to the fixed plate 3, carrying the pivot pin 1 and the door with it ; the washer 8 also has a stop 14 which engages the edge of the arm 7 to limit rotation. Also fixed to the pivot pin is a washer 10, with part cut away, which engages with an upstanding part 7a of the arm 7 to prevent reverse sliding movement when the cam 11 clears the arm as the door opens. |
