摘要 A diphenylolpropane-formaldehyde condensation product is prepared by refluxing 342 parts diphenylolpropane, 450 parts 40 per cent formaldehyde and 20 parts of 8 per cent caustic soda for /ba1/2/be hour, neutralizing with 20 parts 8 per cent hydrochloric acid, and removing the water in a vacuum. It is stated that one molecular proportion of diphenylolpropane may be treated with up to 4 molecular proportions of formaldehyde in the cold or at 40-50 DEG C., and 1 molecular proportion of phenol with up to 3 molecular proportions of formaldehyde in the presence of from a small amount up to 1 molecular proportion of sodium hydroxide, at room temperature or higher.ALSO:Horn-like material is made by moulding a mixture of case in with less than half its weight of a resole prepared for example as described in Specifications 27096/08, [Class 2, Acids and salts, Organic &c.], 159,461, and 259,046, [both in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], Condensation products of diphenylolpropane and formaldehyde prepared as described in Specifications 18824/12, 261,522 and 298,680, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], may also be used. In an example 80 parts of casein, 16 parts water, 8 parts alcohol, and 8 parts of diphenylolpropane-formaldehyde are mixed, dried and moulded at 90 DEG C. in a closed mould. The condensation product used is prepared by refluxing 342 parts diphenylolpropane, 450 parts 40 per cent formaldehyde, and 20 parts of 8 per cent caustic soda for half an hour, neutralizing with 20 parts 8 per cent hydrochloric acid, and removing the water in a vacuum. It is stated that one molecular proportion of diphenylolpropane may be treated with up to 4 molecular proportions of formaldehyde in the cold or at 40-50 DEG C., and 1 molecular proportion of phenol with up to 3 molecular proportions of formaldehyde in the presence of from a small amount up to 1 molecular proportion of sodium hydroxide at room temperature or higher.
