PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pile driver which is equipped with a rack pinion-type lifting/lowering device with a simple structure, capable of smoothly lifting/lowering a working device without deteriorating stability or workability, capable of improving the stability and the workability, and capable of reducing a manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: In this pile driver, the working device 14 is ascendably/descendably mounted via the rack pinion-type lifting/lowering device 15 on the front portion of a square pipe-like leader 13 which is provided ahead of a base machine in such a manner as to be capable of rising/falling. Plate-like guide members 21 in the longitudinal direction of the leader are provided at the front ends of both the width-direction side surfaces of the leader, respectively; a plate-like rack member 22 having a rack 22a at a leading end is fixed to a front surface of the guide member; and both rear side portions of the working device are each provided with a pinion driving device 24 for driving a pinion 23 for being meshed with the rack, and a sliding support 25 which comprises a rear sliding contact portion 25a coming into sliding contact with a rear surface of the guide member and a front sliding contact portion 25b coming into sliding contact with a front surface of the rack member.
