PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing chlorine gas and hydrogen gas having production efficiency of chlorine gas and hydrogen gas higher than before. SOLUTION: Water containing dietary salts is subjected to diaphragm-free electrolysis, and generated chlorine gas 1 and hydrogen gas 2 are separately recovered according to specific gravity difference. In the method for producing chlorine gas and hydrogen gas, the chlorine gas (Cl<SB POS="POST">2</SB>) from an anode and the hydrogen gas (H<SB POS="POST">2</SB>) from a cathode are mixed when moving from a liquid phase to a vapor phase by performing the diaphragm-free electrolysis of water containing dietary salts. Then, volatilized mixed gas of the chlorine gas and the hydrogen gas is subjected to separation and recovery according to specific gravity difference (chlorine gas 2.49>hydrogen gas 0.069), so that the chlorine gas and the hydrogen gas can be separately recovered even when the diaphragm-free electrolysis is employed.
