<p>The method involves impressing a current pulse on a moved cable (101) so that the magnetic field (103) is induced. The external determination of magnetic field information is carried out. A cable direction or cable position is determined by the magnetic field information. An indication of direction specified by comparing the coincidence measurement values of different measuring positions and combination of information to a direction code is determined.
