<p>A water treatment system has a filter means including a reverse osmosis filter 12, a pump for pumping water to the filter and a drive 16 for driving a pump. The drive is able to be powered by a human and comprises a flywheel (26, Fig. 2). The system is configured to process water containing dissolved solids to provide potable water. The system may pump water to the filter means at a pressure of at least 60 bar. The system may output up to at least 450 litres of potable water per day. To drive the system pedal means (20, Fig. 6) can be used. The filter means may comprise a first filter 6 and a second filter, wherein the second filter may include a reverse osmosis filter. The system includes an energy recovery device 34 in the form of a rotary vane device or a Clarke pump.</p> |
