Communication device for an industrial automation system

The apparatus has transmission and reception units (21-24) comprising a connection for a network connectivity of an industrial communication network. Switching devices (61-64) e.g. diodes, are attached to the terminals and for activation and deactivation of the terminals. A release device (8) i.e. key switch, is connected with the switching devices and secured by an access protection. The release device activates the switching devices for an operation. Status indication devices (71-74) are attached to the terminals for signaling of an allocation and/or activation status of the terminals.
