603,291. Knitting-machines. COTTON Ltd.. W., and LYNAM, J. E. Jan. 6. 1945, No. 581. [Class 74(ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] To eliminate the usual cam follower return spring and the associated uneven torque on knitting-machine cam shaft, a follower on which any one of a number of cams may operate has associated with it a second follower, connected to the first by spring means and on which a counter cam always operates. By shogging shaft 1. either of two cams thereon (e.g., a knitting cam and a fashioning cam) may be made to engage a truck 4 on a truck lever 6. An arm 7, hinged at 8 to the truck lever, carries a second truck 9 which always runs on a co-axial counter cam 10 (because of the width of either or, both), and is urged towards the truck 4 by a spring 11. The counter cam may be a counterpart of one of the cams with which it is associated, or a compromise between a counterpart of each. |
