The present invention relates to a portrait photo management function on a terminal device and, particularly, to a method for managing portrait photos and a terminal device supporting the same. The method for managing portrait photos is characterized by comprising the following steps: outputting at least one portrait photo to a display unit in response to user input; recognizing at least one face included in the outputted portrait photo; comparing the recognized at least one face with at least one database including face information, phonebook information, and collected social network record information; and performing a given user function related to the recognized at least one face based on the comparison result with the database or displaying at least one among a graphic element and an display item, wherein the graphic element facilitates the selection of the recognized face in order to manually operate the given user function, and the display item helps the given user function to be performed.
