The present invention relates to an electric car charging system to realize a smart grid. The electric car charging system according to the present invention comprises a car charging device charging an electric car and a grid operating device communicated and connected to the car charging device. The electric car comprises a battery performing charging and discharging and a battery module having a battery management unit managing the charging and discharging of the battery. The car charging device comprises: a battery charging unit which charges the battery using prevailing power; a power supply unit which supplies the power charged in the battery charging unit to the outside; and a charging and discharging control unit which controls the battery charging unit and the power supply unit to operate with one between a battery charging mode which is communicated and connected to the grid operating device and charges the battery and a power supply mode which supplies the power charged in the battery to the outside. Therefore, the present invention maximizes the efficiency of energy use by utilizing the electric car charging system for charging the electric car as an energy storage system.
