[Class 53.] A tight joint is made between the terminal lugs 1 of an accumulator and the cover 5 by means of bushes 2 cemented to the underside of the cover and in engagement with washers 3 carried in recesses in flanges 4 projecting from the terminal lugs. The latter are in screwthreaded engagement with the bushes 2 and carry screwed studs 8 on which nuts 12 are fitted. An insulating cover 7 may be fitted over the cover 5 and when two cells are joined together to form a battery a single cover 7 may serve for both cells, as described in Specification 386,400. The two cells may be joined together by a flanged base member 15 cemented to the cells, as described in Specification 381,645, and the cells may be fitted with gas exits as described in Specification 388,550. Sediment may be removed from the accumulator by admitting water under pressure through a chamber 19 as described in Specification 386,799. |
