<p>The invention relates to a collagen membrane with doxycycline to be used in dentistry as a treatment of periodontal and gingival infections and to a process for preparing the same. According to the invention, the membrane consists of a natural polymer - type I fibrillar collagen as gel , doxycycline hyclate - a broad spectrum antibiotic, and a reticulation agent. The process, as claimed by the invention, consists in incorporating the doxycycline solution into the collagen gel, homogenizing the same, adjusting the pH value to 7.4 with sodium hydroxide 1M, adding distilled water until the final composition reaches a collagen content of 1.5%, as dry substance, followed by reticulation, the resulting gel composition being lyophilized for 48 h to result in a dense spongy green-yellow foil which is subjected to cold pressing, finally there being obtained the collagen membrane with doxycycline for dental use.</p> |
