The prevent invention relates to a message display method and, more specifically, to a message display method capable of dynamically controlling a message display over time and a device therefor. A terminal according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: an input unit for receiving a message from a user; a display unit for displaying the message; and a control unit for directing the display unit to display, on the display unit, the message inputted by the user and a message sent by the other terminal, applying visual effects to the message when a given time has passed since the message was displayed, and directing the effect applied message to be display. As a result, sending and receiving messages can be realistically displayed by applying visual effects to the messages, which are inputted by a user and sent by the other user, over time.
