The present invention relates to a mobile terminal having an international roaming function and a method for controlling the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal which is capable of performing an international roaming function comprises: a display unit for displaying a call list including call items; a user input unit for receiving a communication command about one among the call items; a communication history check unit for checking a communication history in order to determine whether the inputted one is communication using the international roaming function in response to the communication command while the international roaming function is operating; and a control unit for performing communication using information about the inputted one and a given country code if the inputted one is communication which does not use the international roaming function.
