The method involves defining horizontal layer regions (40a-40d) of electrolyte liquid (30) i.e. battery acid, located between electrode plates (20a, 20b), where the layer regions are extended from one of the plates upto the other plate. Current at the plates is determined. A locally charging condition value for each layer region is determined based on the determined current of the plates. A simulation model for a vertical lamination of the liquid is determined such that charging conditions of a battery (10) are determined under consideration of the determined locally charging condition values. An independent claim is also included for a determination device for determining charging conditions of a battery.
