[Class 120 (iii).] Card clothing for carding engines, fabricfinishing and other textile machines, comprises metallic bristles or teeth mounted in a flexible backing formed of textile fabric impregnated or coated with a composition comprising an ester, ether or ether-ester of cellulose, e.g. nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, formate, propionate or butyrate or ethyl or benzyl cellulose, or of other polyhydroxy compound of high molecular weight, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol. The backing may consist of a number of fabric layers united by the composition or, alternatively, of a sheet of composition reinforced by textile fibres, metal wire or other filamentary material. The esters, ethers or ether-esters of polyvinyl alcohol provide a backing of good flexibility while plasticizers or softening agents such as the aryl esters of phosphoric acid or the condensation products of phenols or naphthols may be added. Natural or artificial resins may also be added.</p> |
