TIMING AND CELL SPECIFIC SYSTEM INFORMATION HANDLING FOR HANDOVER IN E-UTRA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for reducing handover time.SOLUTION: A WTRU 302 sends a measurement result 308 to a source eNB 304. On the basis of the measurement, the source eNB 304 sends a handover request 310 to a target eNB 306. The target eNB 306 returns a handover request acknowledge message 312 to the source eNB 304. The handover request acknowledge message 312 includes specific information of the target eNB 306. The source eNB 304 sends a handover command 314 which carries the target cell specific information to the WTRU 302. The WTRU 302 communicates directly with the target eNB 306 by exchanging a RACH preamble 316, a RACH response 318 and a handover complete command 320. Normal operation 322 then occurs between the WTRU 302 and the target eNB 306.
