Damage to a switching element caused by a reverse recovery current is prevented. A reverse recovery current prevention device (2) is provided with a full wave rectification unit (21), first and second diodes (D22 and D23), a switching element (24), and a switching element control unit (30). The full wave rectification unit (21) rectifies the power supply voltage (Vac) from an AC power source (10) inputted to a first and second input terminal (s2 and t2). Each anode terminal of the first and second diode (D22 and D23) is respectively connected to the first and second input terminal (s2 and t2) of the full wave rectification unit (21). The switching element (24) electrically opens or short-circuits between the negative side output terminal of the full wave rectification unit (21) and cathode terminals (s3 and t3) of the first and second diode (D22 and D23). The switching element control unit (30) prohibits the switching element (24) from short-circuiting between the negative side output terminal and the cathode terminals (s3 and t3), when the voltage between the negative side output terminal and the cathode terminals (s3 and t3) is equal to or above a threshold value.
