PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a belt-like area having different brightness from another part in an image display device of a passive system using a pattern retardation film.SOLUTION: An alignment film and a phase difference layer are sequentially formed on a transparent film material, and a phase difference corresponding light emitted from an image display panel is applied to the phase difference layer by alignment regulation force of the alignment film. The phase difference layer has first areas A having a slow axis in a first direction, and second areas B having a slow axis in a second direction different from that of the first areas A, which are provided sequentially and alternately; and the area width of the first areas A or the second areas B changes in a direction where the first areas A and the second areas B are continuously provided.
