A database management method for controlling a database, the method being such that a computer comprising a processor, a memory, and a storage device stores a portion of data stored in the storage device to a buffer provided in the memory, wherein the computer receives a data access request, analyzes the data access request, extracts a look ahead process, identifies the location of look-ahead-target data in the database as the target of the look-ahead process, configures substitution-target data for storing the look-ahead-target data in the buffer, infers whether or not the substitution-target data is to be accessed, and when it has been inferred that the substitution-target data is to be accessed, delays executing the look-ahead process.
