The invention relates to a balancing element (10) for balancing a clutch (26), comprising a shaft (14) for inserting into a housing opening (22) of a clutch cover (24), a head axially protruding from the shaft (14) for limiting an insertion depth, and cutting edges (30) radially protruding from the shaft for plastically deforming a wall (20) surrounding the housing opening (22), wherein a deforming stop (36) arranged at a distance from the cutting edges is provided between the cutting edges (30) and the head in order to plastically deform a part of the wall between the cutting edges and the deforming stop. By means of the plastic deformation (20) of the wall into an area between the cutting edges (30) and the deforming stop (36), the balancing element (10) can be accommodated captively even under operating conditions without additional tools, whereby simple and economical production of an operationally reliable clutch (26) is enabled.
