<p>In the present invention, when a main screen and one or more secondary screens are displayed, the screen brightness for the main screen can be suitably controlled without being affected by image signals for the secondary screens. An image display device (1) is provided with an LED backlight (7) that illuminates an LCD panel (5) and an area active control unit (3) that controls the light emission brightness of the LED backlight (7). The area active control unit (3) divides the LED backlight (7) into a plurality of regions and controls the light emission brightness of the LEDs corresponding to each region according to an image signal corresponding to each region. When the LCD panel (5) displays the main screen and one or more secondary screens, the control unit (3) controls the light emission brightness of the LEDs corresponding to the display region for the main screen in a range in which the total value for drive current for the LEDs is a prescribed allowable current value or less on the basis of a lighting ratio for the LED backlight (7) for the main screen and also fixedly controls the light emission brightness of LEDs corresponding to display regions for the secondary screens independently of this brightness control.</p> |
