PURPOSE: A receipt printer and a controlling method thereof are provided to prevent paper folding or jamming generated when printing is proceeded in an inclined state. CONSTITUTION: A receipt printer (100) comprises a motion sensor (10), a controlling part (20), a display window (30), and a printing part (40). The display window outputs the operating state to a screen. The printing part prints and outputs a receipt. The motion sensor senses the horizontal state of the receipt printer. The controlling part receives the horizontal state sensed at the motion sensor before controlling the display window and the printing part for controlling screen output and a printing direction according to the horizontal state, outputting a warning and controlling a printing process.
