The diagnostic medical imaging apparatus (100) of an embodiment is provided with a first cross-sectional image-generating unit (26b), a second cross-sectional image-generating unit (26c), and a display control unit (26d). The first cross-sectional image-generating unit (26b) generates multiple candidates for the first cross-sectional image from three-dimensional medical image data taken of the heart. The second cross-sectional image-generating unit (26c) generates second cross-sectional images, which are cross-sectional images that intersect with each candidate for the first cross-sectional image, from the three-dimensional medical image data. The display control unit (26d) places various candidates for the first cross-sectional image beside a second cross-sectional image on which information representing the positional relationship of the respective candidate for the first cross-sectional image to the second cross-sectional image is superimposed and displays same on the display unit.
