The method comprises: in a first step, linearly moving a printing roll and an inking roll towards a central, counterpressure roll, causing said rolls to rotate, and monitoring the torque thereof, and, upon detection of a variation in torque, performing a first adjustment of pressure between said printing roll and one of said central, counterpressure or inking rolls; and, in a second step, a) carrying out printing; b) capturing an image from said printing; c) examining the quality of said captured image; and d) varying the pressure exerted between the printing roll and one of said central, counterpressure or inking rolls; and repeating said sequence of actions a) to d) to achieve an optimum level of pressure between the rolls. The press is designed in order to implement the method.
