A vehicle power transmission device in which a continuously variable transmission for continuously changing the transmission gear ratio, a first gear train for transmitting the torque when traveling forward, and a second gear train for transmitting the torque when traveling in reverse are disposed in parallel to one another between an input shaft to which the torque outputted from a drive power source is inputted and an output shaft which rotates when the torque from the input shaft is transmitted to the output shaft. The power transmission device for a vehicle is characterized by being provided with: a first clutch mechanism which switches a torque transmission path extending from the input shaft to the first gear train and finally to the output shaft between a state in which it is possible to transmit the torque and a state in which it is not possible to transmit the torque; a dog clutch which switches a path for transmitting the torque to and from the input shaft and the output shaft between a continuously variable path in which the torque is transmitted via the continuously variable transmission and a reverse path in which the torque is transmitted via the second gear train; and a second clutch mechanism which connects or blocks the continuously variable path and the reverse path with or from the input shaft and/or the output shaft.
