PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-compartment type salt water electrolytic cell capable of remarkably reducing a chloride ion concentration in caustic alkali generated in electrolyzing salt water, and a salt water electrolysis method using the same.SOLUTION: A multi-compartment type salt water electrolytic cell is provided with an anode chamber, one or more intermediate chambers, and a cathode chamber in this order, has a plurality of ion exchange membranes respectively arranged between each of the chambers, and is used to electrolyze salt water including chloride ions, wherein the plurality of ion exchange membranes are all cation exchange membranes. The multi-compartment type salt water electrolytic cell is preferably provided with one intermediate chamber. It is preferable that the multi-compartment type salt water electrolytic cell includes an anode arranged adjacent to the anode chamber side of the ion exchange membrane located between the anode chamber and the intermediate chamber, and a cathode arranged adjacent to the cathode chamber side of the ion exchange membrane located between the cathode chamber and the intermediate chamber. |
