394,318. Doors for vehicles, show-cases, etc.; windows. LEE, T. H., Great Lodge, Great Bardfield, Braintree, Essex. Dec. 9, 1931, No. 34194. [Class 103 (ii).] A door, particularly for vehicles and show-cases, or a window, is suspended upon a vertical axis by a pair of arms or members disposed one beneath the other so that, when opened, it moves bodily forwards or rearwards, means being provided, for example one or more pivoted arms, which impart to it a substantially parallel motion. The pair of arms may form the arms of a U-shaped frame, one or more of which may be provided, pivoted about a substantially vertical axis or axes on a door or window frame, the door being pivoted in the case of one U-frame to the extremities of its arms, or to the vertical member joining the arms, and, in the case of two supporting U- frames, to the extremities of the four arms, or to the two vertical members. As shown, two vehicle doors a, d are pivoted each to one vertical member c or e of one frame and to the extremities of a pair of arms b<1> or f<1> of the other frame, the frames being hinged to the vehicle body respectively by the extremities of the arms c<1> or e<1> and by the vertical member b or f. When the members b, c, f, e of the U-frames are not truly vertical the doors rise and fall in the opening and closing movements respectively. The arms of a pair of frames may be of unequal length so that the door lies to one side when fully open. Locking means for the door comprises a bar centrally pivoted inside the door and adapted to engage oppositely-disposed catches at the edges of the door opening. |
