An auto focus apparatus and an auto focusing method are provided to relieve the collapse of resolution at surrounding portions when 2D-photographing a subject having inclination within a short distance, thereby suppressing defects due to defective resolution and providing all the focusing to a customer. An automatic focusing apparatus comprises a contrast obtaining unit(30) and a focusing unit(35). The contrast obtaining unit obtains contrast information of a subject's surface through the window by at least two windows. The focusing unit calculates an average value of the obtained contrast information and performs focusing by the same resolution as the average value. The contrast obtaining unit comprises a center window(32), a left window(31) and a right window(33). The contrast obtaining unit obtains left/right contrast information of the subject with the central contrast information. |
