The invention relates to a method for collecting used food oil, and to a corresponding tanker, especially designed to carry out said method. Said method comprises the following steps: users deposit discrete quantities (1) of used food oil in containers (2) comprising a receptacle (3) wherein said discrete quantities (1) accumulate, forming a single volume (4); and the used food oil accumulated in said receptacles (3) is collected by a tanker (5) that transfers the used food oil from said receptacle (3) to the tank (6) of the tanker (5) through a hose (7) by which means said receptacle (3) and said tank (6) are interconnected, the transfer involving the movement of a volume (8) of hot used food oil through said receptacle (3), at a temperature higher than 50°C, said used food oil being warmed by heating means (9) provided in said tanker (5).
