A fire extinguishing system for a ship according to the present invention comprises: a firefighting tank in which clear water is stored; a first backflow prevention valve which is installed at the discharge side of the firefighting tank; a first firefighting pipe line which is extended from the first backflow prevention valve; a fire extinguishing unit which is connected to the first firefighting pipe line and receives clear water; a main firefighting pump which is operated when the pressure of the firefighting tank is less than the predetermined value; a second backflow prevention valve which is installed at the discharge side of the main firefighting pump; a second firefighting pipe line which is extended from the second backflow prevention valve and is connected to the first firefighting pipe line; a sub firefighting pump which is operated when the operation of the main firefighting pump is impossible; a third backflow prevention valve which is installed at the discharge side of the sub firefighting pump; and a third firefighting pipe line which is extended from the third backflow prevention valve and is connected to the second firefighting pipe line. The present invention uses the clear water stored in the firefighting tank in first fire extinguishing, uses sea water in second fire extinguishing by operating the main firefighting pump when the operation of the first fire extinguishing is impossible and operates the sub firefighting pump when the operation of the main firefighting pump is impossible, thereby responding more rapidly to ship fire and minimizing damage due to fire.
