A cleat 30 for releasably connecting a cycling shoe to a pedal comprises a connection plate 10 for connection to a shoe, in which the connection plate can be secured, for example by bolts 40 and washers 44 to a shoe in at least a first and a second different configuration. The connection plate 10 has a respective set of engagement formations corresponding to each of the different configurations, each set of engagement formations being able to connected a shoe to a pedal. The engagement formations of one configuration are not subject to wear when the connection plate is in another configuration. In a preferred arrangement, a cleat further includes a sole plate 12 that is, in use, disposed between a sole of a shoe and the connection plate 10.
