A display device includes a substrate, a pixel which is formed on the substrate, and a color filter unit between the substrate and the pixel. The color filter unit includes a color filter corresponding to the pixel and a black matrix on at least one side of the color filter. The pixel includes a cover layer which defines a tunnel-shaped cavity, an image display layer in the tunnel-shaped cavity, and first and second electrodes which are insulated and apply an electric field to the image display layer. The tunnel-shaped cavity is formed by forming a sacrificial layer and removing the sacrificial layer with a wet etching process.
