PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain newsprint paper for offset printing which is suppressed in the occurrence of pilings and stickiness troubles. SOLUTION: The newsprint paper for offset printing is such that both sides of base paper incorporated with 0.1-0.4 mass% of a neutral rosin sizing agent are coated with surface treatment agent consisting mainly of a low-viscosity starch with a 7%-Brookfield viscosity of 7 mPa s or lower at 50°C and an olefinic surface sizing agent followed by drying so as to be 50 mN/30 mm or lower in stickiness strength and 30-200 s in water absorption time. Furthermore, in the newsprint paper, it is preferable that the coating level of the low-viscosity starch is 0.2-1.0 g/m<SP>2</SP>per side, and the mass ratio of the low-viscosity starch in the surface treatment agent to the olefinic surface sizing agent is (99:1) to (70:30).
