The present invention relates to sustained release polymeric microspheres containing anastrozole, and more specifically, to a method for preparing polymeric microspheres by dissolving polymers and anastrozole in a solvent, and aggregating the reactant into particles, comprising the steps of: treating aggregated polymeric particles with an aqueous alcohol solution; and preparing a sustained release polymeric microspheres containing anastrozole, wherein the ratio of the maximum serum concentration (Cmax) with respect to the average serum concentration (Cave) of anastrozole during release period is 1-20. The present invention also relates to polymeric microspheres prepared thereby and a pharmaceutical composition containing the same. The method for preparing the sustained release polymeric microspheres containing anastrozole is capable of preparing polymeric microspheres which lower the ratio of the maximum serum concentration (Cmax) with respect to the average serum concentration (Cave) of anastrozole during release period to 1-20, thereby effectively preparing a sustained release pharmaceutical composition for treating cancer using the polymeric microspheres.
