604,682. Woodworking machine carriages. HORMAN, A. E. May 24, 1945, No. 13024. [Class 145 (i)] In a wood-working machine in which a toolsupporting carriage moves along a cantilever arm overhanging the work, the carriage is supported and guided by load-sustaining and guide rollers so arranged that, at each end of the carriage, the axes of the guide rollers form a right-angled triangle with the projection of the axis of the load-sustaining rollers on the plane through the axes of the guide rollers, the projection forming the hypotenuse of the triangle and lying in a horizontal plane. As shown the cantilever arm 10, Fig. 4, has a slot 15 extending the length of its bottom wall 14 with tracks 16, 17 on either side of the slot on which loadsustaining rollers 33, Fig. 1, of the carriage run and has inclined tracks 20, 21 in contact with which run guide rollers 46, 47 of the carriage mounted in Y-shaped yokes 42 having stems 43 supported in sockets or recesses 39 in extensions 38 of the carriage. The sockets 39 are closed by L-shaped plates 50, 51 held to the carriage by screws 52, 53 and having adjustable screws 56 which move the yokes 42 vertically to compensate for wear of the rollers 46, 47. The carriage is moved by means of a belt 23 attached to the plates 50, 51. The tool, symbolically indicated at 27 is attached to the bottom of the carriage by bolts 28, or may be hung from a king bolt hole 29. The rollers 33 are mounted on axles 32 having long antifriction rollers between them and the carriage and the ends of the axle holes in the carriage have annular closures and felt washers. |
