Preparation of 2,4-dihydroxyphenyl-4-methoxybenzyl-ketone compounds (I) comprises reacting phenyl acetic acid derivatives (II) with phenol derivatives (III) with hydrogen fluoride. Preparation of 2,4-dihydroxyphenyl-4-methoxybenzyl-ketone compounds of formula (I) comprises reacting phenyl acetic acid derivatives of formula (II) with phenol derivatives of formula (III) with hydrogen fluoride. R 1>, R 2>H, Cl, F, Br, I, CF 3, CH 3, optionally substituted alkoxy, -OCF 3, -C(CH 3) 3, -CH 2(CH 3) 2 or -CH(CH 3) 2 (preferably H, Cl, F, Br, I, CF 3, CH 3, 1-4C alkoxy, -C(CH 3) 3, -CH 2(CH 3) 2 or -CH(CH 3) 2 ); R 3>H, Cl, F, Br, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, -C(CH 3) 3 (preferably H, Cl, F, Br, 1-6C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or -C(CH 3) 3); and X : OH, F, Cl or optionally substituted alkoxy (preferably OH, F, Cl, 1-4C alkoxy).
