The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing a flavone-based compound as an active ingredient for treating obesity and, more specifically, a pharmaceutical composition or a food composition containing 5,7-dimethoxyflavone or 5,7,4'-trimethoxyflavone for preventing, treating, or improving obesity. The composition of the present invention is effective in prevention or treatment of obesity by inhibiting adipogenesis and decreasing the expression of key transcription factors (SREBP1c and C/EBP) and adipogenesis related enzyme proteins (FAS and ACC).
