PURPOSE: A variable resistance element and a manufacturing method thereof effectively prevent plates from spreading and the generation of a plating layer on a surface when plating is performed at an external electrode by forming an insulator on the outer surface of the element. CONSTITUTION: A variable resistance element (10) includes a main body, a first insulator sheet (410), an external electrode (300), and an insulator layer. The main body includes semiconducting ceramic sheets (220), and internal electrodes (230a, 230b). The semiconducting ceramic sheets have semiconducting properties. The internal electrodes are formed between the semiconducting ceramic sheets. The first insulator sheet is laminated on the upper surface of the main body. The second insulator sheet is laminated on the lower surface of the main body. The external electrode is connected to the internal electrode and is formed on both sides of the main body. The insulator layer is coated on the front and back surfaces of the main body. |
