A telephone call holding service system and method of a mobile terminal are provided to effectively use radio resources by preventing a transmission terminal from paying an unnecessary call charge. When a transmission terminal(21) requests call holding, a call holding unit(24) releases a call of the transmission terminal and maintains a call of a reception terminal(22) during a call holding time. The call holding unit includes a storage unit for storing call holding information of the transmission terminal and a controller for transmitting the request for holding the call of the transmission terminal to the reception terminal, controlling a base station to release the call between the base station and the transmission terminal, transmitting a request for releasing call holding of the transmission terminal to the reception terminal, and controlling the base station to re-connect the call with the transmission terminal. |
