The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating hyperlipidemia or arteriosclerosis comprising Peucedanum japonicum Thunberg extract, and the extract of the present invention can be used as a pharmaceutical composition for treating and preventing hyperlipidemia or arteriosclerosis by confirming inhibiting effects of total cholesterol and neutral fat, an increasing effect relating to a HDL cholesterol ratio, and even reducing effects relating to an arteriosclerosis-inducing index and heart disease risk factors.
