PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent creep deformation of a belt so as to suppress image defects such as scattering and lateral streaks in an image forming apparatus, and reduce the size of the image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: When a tension roller 12 is at a first position where an intermediate transfer belt 10 is laid over the tension roller 12, an auxiliary roller 18 applies tension to the intermediate transfer belt 10 with a tension spring 51, and is at a position not restricted by restriction means. When the tension roller 12 is at a second position where the intermediate transfer belt 10 is not laid over the tension roller 12, the auxiliary roller 18 is restricted in movement position by the restriction means, and does not contact the intermediate transfer belt 10. |
