摘要 A plurality of pixels of a liquid crystal display device (1) has a polygonal shape that is long longitudinally. The pixels are divided in two by a center line parallel to the sides of the polygonal shape and are linearly symmetrical with respect to the center line. Pixel electrodes (9a, 9b) are divided linearly symmetrically with respect to the center line. A trace that has a longitudinal direction toward the center line is formed on the surfaces of the pixel electrodes (9a, 9b). Common electrodes (8a, 8b) are divided linearly symmetrically with respect to the center line. The positions of the common electrodes (8a, 8b) in the transverse direction are offset from the pixel electrodes (9a, 9b) in a direction away from the center line. An alignment film (10) imparts a pre-tilt angle (theta) to liquid crystal molecules (L1 - L12) such that the longitudinal direction of the liquid crystal molecules (L1 - L12) is inclined from the vertical direction in the direction in which the common electrodes (8a, 8b) are offset from the pixel electrodes (9a, 9b).
