A bumper reinforcement (7) extending in the width direction of a vehicle is joined to the front ends of side member bodies (3) extending in the front-rear direction of the vehicle. Protrusion ends (7a) are provided at the ends of the bumper reinforcement (7) in the width direction of the vehicle, the protrusion ends (7a) protruding further outward in the width direction of the vehicle than the joint sections (5a) where the bumper reinforcement (7) and bumper stays (5) are connected together. Gussets (13) extending toward the rear of the vehicle body are provided to the protrusion ends (7a). Catchers (21) are mounted to portions of the outer surfaces of the side member bodies (3), the portions being located behind the gussets (13) relative to the vehicle body. The catchers (21) are located at positions corresponding to the mount sections (25) of the side member bodies (3), the mount sections (25) being those to which a power train unit (23) is mounted. When a side member (3) is pressed and crushed due to the collision of an obstacle (N), from the front of the vehicle, with the portion of the vehicle which is located on the outside of the side member body (3) in the width direction of the vehicle, the gusset (13) is received by the catcher (21) to minimize the crushing of the side member body (3), and the catcher (21) receives the gussets (13) with increased force.
