An optical line terminal of a passive optical network system senses the failures in an optical path comprising ring-shaped single optical fiber cores and divides the optical path into a right path and a left path based on the failure position. The optical line terminal outputs a plurality of downstream optical wavelength signals, which is transmitted to one or more optical terminals of each group according to failure position, to one or more optical terminals of each group by demultiplexing the downstream optical wavelength signals with the optical wavelength signals of the right path and the left path.
